Alexz Johnson: ‘Salvage’
Back in October 2024, just a few short months after we opened our doors to Freda Recording, Alexz Johnson drove with her family from Canada, all the way down to the countryside of Tennessee, to make a record with us.
During the day Nick and Alexz would record while her husband, Matt and their two children, would play and homeschool. After hours, our kids played together and shared meals together.
Alexz and I had many deep conversations about motherhood, creative living, following our dreams, and grief. We even recorded one of those conversations for the podcast (coming soon).
Today, it’s June 19th, and Alexz has been blessed with another healthy baby. She also released the album she recorded here, titled ‘Salvage’.
It brings me so much joy to look at the photos she selected for the album artwork. If you look closely, you can see the stained glass window, the polaroids I took of Alexz while she was recording, the hydrangeas near the wooden porch that she sits on for the cover of the vinyl.
It’s a privilege to see how our dreams of building the studio and all of the little details we chose to make the studio beautiful, helps her (and other artists) feel inspired and at ease to follow their dreams. Having her two small children in ear shot while she recorded could not have been an easy feat but Alexz did it with such grace.
We feel deeply grateful for the friendship we made with her and her family. And we are so proud of the music that was recorded during that time.
Please go listen to the album on Spotify and get yourself a limited (and signed) vinyl pressing here.
